Year 1 & 2

Welcome to our learning in year 1 & 2 - Spring 1

Welcome back into the New Year!  Hoping that everyone had a fun-filled and restful Christmas break.

This topic on the ground floor our topic is Dinosaurs, and we have planned an exciting trip to the Natural History Museum for later in the term where we will learn more about our topic in a hands-on way.

In Literacy, we will be reading Tyrannosaurus Drip, by Julia Donaldson, about which we will be producing character comparisons describing the similarities and differences between the Tyrannosauruses and the Duck-billed dinosaurs.  We will also read How to Grow a Dinosaur, by Cary Hart and Ed Eaves, and writing our own retells.  Later in the term we will be writing stories about a chalk dinosaur that comes to life!

Science this term is looking at and comparing different habitats, and in History we will be creating timelines of the different periods in history during which dinosaurs lived, and writing facts about the eras.  In RS we will be learning all about Judaism, and for PE we will be doing dance, and will produce as a class a dance to Walk the Dinosaur.  We will also be continuing with our weekly run in the Pleasaunce, and for short PE will be looking at yoga stories.

In Numeracy, we will be recapping and consolidating our learning from last term in addition and subtraction, as well as learning about data, time, and weight.
