Year 1 & 2

Welcome to our learning in year 1 & 2 - Summer 1

Welcome back to the fantastic sun!  It’s so nice to have the longer days and warmer weather.  Hoping that everyone had a lovely break, and ate plenty of chocolate!

This term on the ground floor our topic is London – we have an exciting trip to the London Eye coming up, where we will be able to learn about the city’s geography and famous locations.

In History, we will be learning all about the 1666 Great Fire of London, and we will see first-hand how it happened when we make a paper village and set it alight in the playground!  We will also be learning about and comparing the differences between buildings then and buildings now.  In Geography we will look at navigating our way across London, and the location of the city’s landmarks.

In Literacy we have been looking at Mary Poppins, and are working on writing our own advertisement for the perfect nanny based around the film.  We will also be watching Paddington and producing work based on the film.

For Numeracy, we will be looking at 2D shapes, their properties and recording data in tally charts.  We will also be thinking about logic problems, for example reasoning why a picture may contain certain shapes when you can only see the edges.  We will also be learning about telling the time.

In Science we will be learning about the weather, and the properties of materials, and PE will mainly be  focused around ball and racquet skills.
