Year 1 & 2

Welcome to our learning in year 1 & 2 - Spring 1

Welcome back to the first school term of the new decade!

This term’s topic on the ground floor is a particularly exciting one; it is Around the World, and we will be learning about a different country each week – focusing on that country not only in literacy, but also in DT when we will be learning to cook several different recipes from countries all over the world.

In Literacy, we will look at Lost and Found, by Oliver Jeffers, and use this as a starting point and inspiration for writing our own stories.  We will also write adverts to persuade people to visit India, postcards from Canada, and a review of the film Moana.

In Numeracy, we will be looking at number sequences, time, volume and capacity, as well as recapping our learning of addition and subtraction.  In Science, we will be learning about what plants and animals need to survive, and will learn about the different plants, and how to identify trees.

In Geography, we will be identifying the continents, learning about the five oceans, before focusing in on our own country and discovering what the United Kingdom actually is.  In PE, we will learn some traditional world dances, and in RE we will be looking at Sikhism.
