Year 1 & 2

Welcome to our learning in year 1 & 2 - Summer 1

Welcome back for the sunniest third of the year!  Hoping that everyone had a fantastic Easter break, with much rest, relaxation, and chocolate…!

This term on the ground floor our topic is Abracadabra! – we will be looking at all things magical and surreal, as well as illusions; in Art we will learn about Salvador Dali and René Magritte, and will create our own paintings based on those by Magritte.  In DT, we will be designing and making Jack-in-the-boxes!

In Literacy, we have been writing instructions for a magical potion, and we will be reading Gorilla, by Anthony Browne, based on which we will write both diary entries and our own stories using the book as an inspiration.  In Science, we will be looking at animal life cycles and groups, and in Numeracy we will be looking at direction, length and measure, as well as multiplication.  In RE we will learn about Sikhism.

In ICT, we will be learning research skills; we will use the tablets and laptops to research Magritte, and PHSE this term will be all about growth mindset – talking about how effort and self-belief can help with learning, and how trying hard can help you improve at almost everything.  Spanish will be learning about the months of the year and talking about when our birthdays are, and PE will be ball skills, as well as the continuation of the weekly run.
